MOTORSHOW SNIPPETS

I spent a few hours wandering round the Motorshow at Impact Arena last weekend. There were LOTS of people there!

For me, there wasn't much of interest. I find the currrent Japanese car models all rather the same in looks, few have differing features internally, and they are all much like driving a dinghy in a soup bowl on account of automatic transmission and spongy suspension.

But there were a few items on display which made me reach for my phone to take a picture (as I had forgotten my camera for making calls), and I thought there might be a morsel of interest here for them.

Sorry, no girls till the last one, my wife was in a vigilant mood.

~~

Firstly, there was a nice little Korean Hyundai with cosmic blue interior lights, due for release next year

And a 7 seater Hyundai with no release date, but the first car I've seen with tv screens on the back of seats, keep the kids quiet!

Squat and seductive, the latest Lotus Elise, pure class from Norwich (I hear Colin Chapman is dead, RIP, remember Diana Rigg in the Elan?)

And then, to my surprise, a small area with CLASSIC cars of yesteryear. What lines, and style! What beauty! Miles per gallon, what? Absolutely made my trip worthwhile to see these. Amazing!

First, an old Austin Seven

A couple of MG Roadsters

The legendary Jaguar XK120

An Alfa-Romeo Duetto from 1966

Then, possibly the most beautiful sportscar of all time, the Series 1 Jaguar E-type

And almost as beautiful, the Mercedes-Benz 300SL gullwing

Then, back to current years, something I have never heard of called a Magnate

I was surprised to see a modern version of the Fiat 500, though this one, unlike the original, has a 1.5 litre engine!

Of course, the ever popular 'car of the people', ugly as sin with its modern styling

And soon to be released, the car for pretty 80s secretaries, the Fiesta!

Dropping in on the show, the new Mazda 2, pitched against the Jazz and Yaris, I think it's real cute, and Bangkok will soon be full of them with their sporty bright colours and yummy students inside

Of course, the show would not be anything without the eternal Mini Cooper, not much like the original 1071cc model, and nowadays 50% more expensive than a BMW318, which goes to show something.....

The Mini Cooper Clubman has arrived, albeit a souped up version

The Parking, access to, and access from Impact Arena is a disgrace, and a shambles. It took nearly 90 minutes to get out of the carpark, and there was such a jam there were people parked on the Expressway, REALLY!

As my wife said, with traffic like this, why do so many people want to buy cars?

I want an E-type.............

SLURP!!
